GRAND VIEW POINT OVERLOOK 046
Location: Canyonlands National Park, UT
I had been making an almost annual trip to the Moab, UT area since the mid-90’s with a bunch of mountain biking friends. But the trip on which this shot was captured was my first trip to the area specifically to record some of the oodles of photo ops available in the area. It was also my first out of town trip with a relatively new DSLR, an Olympus E-300.
I had driven out to this location the previous evening, and captured a few decent shots, but the sky was almost totally void of clouds as the sun went down that evening. And as a very general rule of thumb, I tend to find some cloud cover a significant plus in these ‘big vista’ type landscapes.
So, when the afternoon of this day rolled around, and there was a fair amount of cloud cover hanging around, I decided to return and give the location another go round. And glad I did. There was a brief period when I recall thinking the cloud cover might be too much, but in the end, I don’t think Mo Nat could have been more cooperative.
