I've seen thick fog before, but don't recall ever having seen it move/flow like it did on this morning. The scene in front of me appeared much like watching water cascade over big rocks in a river. It just kept flowing over the ridges and through the breaks in between. It really was quite a treat to see. Technically, the Foothills Parkway from where this image was shot is not in the National Park, but from this location virtually everything beyond the first layer of ridges is almost certainly in the park itself.

But changed when I reached the Dome to find fog so thick I couldn't see much more than about 50 ft in front of my face. Fortunately, the cloud layer was just over my head when I drove back down to Ocunaluftee Overlook. And when the clouds broke just enough to let some some rays peek through, I got pretty excited.
