Forest Park 027, 12/31/2004

The Boathouse in Forest Park at sunrise...shot with my first dslr, an Olympus E-300. A little restaurant on the edge of a lake that is home to the paddle boats folks rent to mosey around the connected waterways in the park.

Rockford Beach 0822, 12/27/2021

Given that I left the house with notions of shooting B&W long exposures, this turned out to be quite an adeventure. In the end, I found myself at this small county park along the (not so) Big River as the sun started it's descent toward the horizon. And the reflection in the river along with shadows from the tree behind me dancing across the facade of the rock way making up the opposite river bank caught my attention.

One image from a truly wonderous morning in the main city park in St. Louis, MO, USA. There were a handful from this session processed in B&W for my 'Silent Stories' project, and I'm not sure this one isn't at least equal to, possibly better than, one of those in that project. Might have to review that. :)

This one was inspired by an Ansel Adams shot of 'Aspens'. The sunlight was coming over my right shoulder and struck the trees at just enough of an angle to add a little dimensionality to the shot.

I'd been eyeing this section of the employee garage for some time, and actually visited the place on a weekend when the garage was all but empty to do some shooting. After shooting a couple of this conduit (air moving stuff?), I realized what really caught my attention was all the abstract 'stuff' all over the walls. I shot several addressing that stuff, but don't much care for any of it.

Sunset from my deck...captured almost a yr after moving into the current house. I have been so fortunate to witness so many outstanding sunsets from this deck, I wish I could remember them all. But that's not the case, and this is one I don't recall specifically. And when I found it this am, I was surprised I'd never processed it previously.

Captured in my back yard as the sun was setting. Though taken as sunset approached, this is looking almost directly east. As my yard slopes up a gentle hill looking this direction, the color comes from the last trees up the hill being lit with extra warm color as the nearest trees are already below the sun's reach for the day.

Possibly the most colorful sunset I've ever witnessed occurred approx 3 weeks after I moved into the new house. I remember watching the small cloud of lake fog get blown around the lake...all while the ducks nonchalantly enjoyed a swim.

This one was captured just a couple weeks after I'd moved into the (then) new house. And surprised to see how much ice had formed on the lake already on this date back then. We've not been remotely close to having any significant freezing thus far this year...not that I'm complaining mind you. :)

A snowy sunset on the lake. Although it's not uncommon for me to stumble across an old image and be 'transported' to the moment of capture, this is not one of those...unfortunately. I guess I've shot so many images from this location that they've all started to run together.

At the time I shot this, I didn't think all that much of it. But I've found an approach to processing it I like and now like it quite well. The tree had clearly lost the main part of it's trunk at some point and combined with the scoliotic nature of the branches that remain, it takes on a good deal of personality.

I found my way out to this state park a couple days after a significant snow storm (for this part of the world, anyway) with the notion of seeking some abstracts of bare deciduous trees laden with snow. And while there was a little of that available, my attention was eventually grabbed by the ground cover I found peeking out of the snow in places.

I frequently stop and make a capture or 2 of fungi growing on trees...especially fallen ones...whenever spotted out hiking in the woodlands. They don't often turn into much, but this one intrigued me enough to process it.
