Reality Is Overrated Gallery
Reality Is Overrated is an extension of my growing approach to minimalism in my work. Minimalism is a bit difficult to define in absolute terms...at least for me. But historically, I'd tended to look upon it in terms of the quantity of subject matter in any single shot. But I've also begun to realize that it's not only the subject matter that can make an image appear 'busy', but color can have the same impact. Sometimes the variety of colors included at the time of capture can provide something of a 'busy' appearance as well.
This project is undertaken with the intent of finding approaches that will minimalize color's impact. I am employing a variety of approaches in attempting to reach the desired goal. Sometimes it's just limiting the number of colors employed, sometimes it's finding just how little color data can be provided to have color remain a significant element of the final image, sometimes it's finding a single color that is significant in the original shot and applying it alone to the image.....and every once in a while, Mother Nature cooperates to provide very minimalist color in a scene and all I need to do is capture it as presented.
