Silent Stories

As a long time landscape photographer, I've been photographing trees forever. But until the last several yr, they've always been an element in the broader landscape. It wasn't until I began to see 'personalities' in them that I began to feature them in a project dedicated to those personalities. Some tell a personal tale as they stand alone, others are part of a community and their story lies in that relationship.

Tragedy
His life had been marred by significant tragedy, and only recently had he begun to show signs of being made whole again."
A Hard Life
He'd led a hardl life as a result of choices made along the way. And it showed. He had the appearance of one who was 40 going on 60.
Dancing Is Her Life
"All she wants to do is dance."
Holiday Revelers
"The street was full of holiday revelers....all of whom seemed a little....tipsy."
Stand Up For Yourself
He had bent to the will of others for so long he no longer knew how to stand up for himself.
The Quicksand Of Life
"The quicksand of life had been hard on the entire family. Some had succumbed completely. Others seemed destined to do the same. Even the patriarch, the strongest of the clan, seemed to straddle the edge between finding solid ground and slipping into the darkness of despair."
Imminent Peril
His fate seemed all but a foregone conclusion to those who gathered nearby.
Leaving Secrets Behind
It was a tightly knit community with a lot of secrets...some dark. In reality, there were no secrets because everyone knew everybody else's secrets. And it caused a few seismic ripples in the community when one of it's younger, frailer, members elected to forego the world of secrets and stepped boldly out into the light and declared.....'No More! No more secrets!
Broken Home
"It was clear the brothers came from a broken home. One struggled to eek out even a meager existence. The other, at first blush, seemed stable, but those closer to him were aware of not insignificant identity issues."
